What are the dates of the festival?
A
The festival runs for 9 days, from Saturday October 20 through to Sunday October 28, 2012.

Where are the venues?
A
Venues : The festival takes place at the main venue in Roppongi Hills (Minato City, Tokyo). The other events co-hosted by Tokyo International Film Festival will be held in various locations throughout Tokyo metropolitan area.

What kind of films will be screened?
A

Tokyo International Film Festival screens approximately a lot of films chosen from the following 6 Sections of the Main Program and holds wide variety of events.


  1. Competition
    The screening of films carefully chosen from 1,332 entries submitted from participants of 91 countries and regions.
  2. Special Screenings
    The screening of highly entertaining films that have yet to be theatrically released in Japan, which introduces irresistible lineup of newsworthy films.
  3. Winds of Asia-Middle East
    The special screening that anticipates new trends in Asian culture: and features the best films produced in countries and regions of the Asian Territory.
  4. Japanese Eyes
    The section focuses on the diverse aspects of the Japanese cinema scenes by screening the most recent films selected from various perspectives.
  5. WORLD CINEMA
    The section makes selective screenings of Japanese Premiere Screenings of European and North American films which received great appraisals from world film festivals.
  6. natural TIFF supported by TOYOTA
    Since 21st edition of Tokyo International Film Festival, the newly launched section screens films that brings attention to the coexistence of men and nature.
  7. Filmmaker's Angle
    The only all-night event at TIFF which consists of a conference by special guests and screenings.

Do the films screened at the festival have subtitles?
A
As a general rule, all the films will be shown with English or Japanese subtitles or both. In case of any changes, details will be updated on this website.

How can I purchase the tickets?
A

General Advance Tickets will go on sale on Saturday, October 6.


Tickets can be purchased on ticket board from October 6, 10:00 am.
Tickets are available anytime, anywhere via PC, mobile, and smart phone..
※Registration is required to purchase tickets on ticket board. There is no service charge for ticket purchasing.
※If you don't have PC or mobile phone, please call ticket board's customer service below to inquire.

If tickets on ticket board are sold out, is there any way to purchase tickets?
A
We offer day-of-performance tickets for respective films generally. Purchasing tickets at other theater is possible.
※Day-of-performance tickets will be sold at the ticket counter of theaters on the screening day.
※Please be forewarned that the opening time of ticket counter are different depending on theaters. (TOHO Cinemas Roppongi Hills: from 9:30 am/ Cinemart Roppongi: from 10:00 am/ Nihonbashi Mitsui Hall: an hour earlier than the first screening of the venue)
※Since the number of tickets is limited, two tickets per purchaser will be a quota for the film titles of Official Opening, Special Opening, Official Closing and Special Screenings.
※Since TOHO Cinemas Roppongi Hills starts selling tickets earlier than other venues (from 9:30 am), there will be no ticket sales at Cinemart Roppoongi and Nihonbashi Mitsui Hall in case that tickets are sold out before their ticket counters' opening time.

How can I attend the festival as a press reporter?

How can I run the film stills and photos during the festival?
A
We offer materials needed for press. They will be provided via an internet download service. Please sign up for Image.net.
Q
Any dress code required for the press covering the events?
A
Opening Ceremony, Green Carpet events and Closing Ceremony are designated with a dress code and formal or semi-formal dress is required.
* No jeans will be allowed.

Tell me about the market.
A
In conjunction with TIFF, a market covering the entire aspects of entertainment industry called “TIFFCOM” will be held. TIFFCOM which celebrates 9th year anniversary this year offers trading opportunities for films, TV programs, animations, comics, games, characters and music business.
Starting this year, TIFFCOM will be held in Odaiba. Therefore, we provide a Shuttle Bus service from the Odaiba venue to Roppongi Hills, the main venue for the Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) during the period of TIFFCOM (10/23~25).

Do you have any ID passes other than Press IDs?
A
ID passes for the individual guests from the film festival and the film companies will be issued separately. For more details, please go to the web page entitled “For Guest.
