Synopsis
A student of philosophy suffers from lack of money and loneliness. He is stressed by the surrounding atmosphere of poverty and the ideology of total survival competition, the division of people into rich and poor, strong and weak... Influenced by all of these, one day the owner of a store and a customer become the student‘s crime victims. When he falls in love with a girl, his sense of guilt grows in his mind. The student has to take responsibility for his actions. A film based on Dostoevsky’s novel “Crime And Punishment”.

Darezhan Omirbayev is a Kazakhstani film director and screenwriter. His first feature film Kairat won the Silver Leopard Award at Locarno. With his following feature films, he participated in international film festivals such as Venice, Karlovy Vary and Singapore. In 1998, his film Tueur á gages won the Un Certain Regard Prize at Cannes Film Festival; it was the first time that Un Certain Regard awarded this prize.
