Ito was an assistant director for Yoji Yamada’s films, such as the Tora-San series, and some of Azuma Morisaki’s films. In 1999, he became a full time employee of Ohuna Studio and worked as a chief assistant director for A Class to Remember 4: Fifteen (2000/Yoji Yamada) and Tsuribaka nisshi 13: Hama-chan kiki ippatsu! (2002/Katsuhide Motoki). His first film as director was Zesshoku in 2005.
