Introduction

A romantic film by a Japanese director, shot entirely in Chinese. From Japan and China cast and crew members came together to make this collaborative endeavour a reality. Shot on location in various Beijing neighbourhoods, The Black Square portrays the different faces of the city. It stars Hideo Nakaizumi, who is gaining increasing recognition from the Japanese and lately Chinese film industry.

Hiroshi Okuhara

Hiroshi Okuhara’s feature debut, Timeless Melody (1999), won New Currents Award at Busan International Film Festival. His second feature Wave (2001) won NetPac Award at Rotterdam International Film Festival. He has also directed Blue Automobile (2004) and 16 (2007).
