Under the theme of protecting the Earth’s environment, Tokyo International Film Festival has grown to become one of Asia’s biggest international film festivals. This year, TIFF celebrates its 25th annual event as another step towards the future, not merely another page in our history.

Japan and the Japanese people were devastated by the Eastern Japan Great Earthquake in March 2011. We at
TIFF believe in the power of films to give hope, dreams, and inspiration to people and contribute to Japan’s recovery and restoration. With this belief, we organized the TIFF ARIGATO Project and other programs last year.

In 2011, we received countless heart-warming messages and support from overseas, reaffirming the power of films to encourage, move, and unite people and touch their hearts.

In our preparations for the 25th TIFF, we are again using the power of films to explore our future. The 25th TIFF promises to grow beyond generations and boundaries to present the finest films to the world and the finest films in the world to Japan.

With Japanese hospitality and excellent films, we invite our friends from around the world to join us on TIFF’s Green Carpet this fall.

Tom Yoda Chairman Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF & TIFFCOM)

Tom Yoda

Tom Yoda heads T.Y. Limited, GAGA Corporation, Dreamusic and T.Y. Entertainment, as well as serves on the board of directors for T-Joy Co. Ltd. He was appointed chairman of the Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF & TIFFCOM) in March 2008. Among his public responsibilities, he contributes to the Japan Business Federation as a Policy Board member/ Chairman of the Subcommittee on Entertainment and Content. He also serves as Executive Director of the Visual Industry Promotion Organization (VIPO), Deputy Chairperson of Executive Committee for Japan International Contents Festival (CoFesta), Vice Chairman of the Executive Committee for 2012 "Friendship Year for Japan-China People-To-People Exchanges".

After serving as director of Sansui Electric, Yoda established Thomas Yoda Limited (later renamed T.Y. Limited) in March 1988 and he moved into the entertainment-content business at Tokyo-based record label Avex, where he was Chairman/CEO from 1995 until August 2004. Tom Yoda was born in Nagano, Japan in 1940.
