Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) and TIFFCOM organized the “Japan Night” in Cannes on Saturday, May 19 at the 65th Cannes Film Festival to celebrate the 25th annual event of TIFF and TIFFCOM’s move to a new venue in the Tokyo Bay area.
This event was attended by around 300 people, including representatives of film organizations and 20 international film festivals, including Berlin, Venice, Toronto, Rotterdam, San Sebastian, Busan as well as domestic and international journalists, and film industry-related people around the world.
In his welcoming remarks, Tom Yoda, the Chairman of TIFF/TIFFCOM, said, “Last year, after the 3.11 earthquake, we reaffirmed the power of films to encourage, move, and unite people. We will be taking a new step in the next edition of the Tokyo International Film Festival with our belief in the power of films, to help us move forward into the future. To this end, we decided on “The Power of Films, Now!” as the slogan for the 25th TIFF.
Last year’s Tokyo Sakura Grand-prix winner “Untouchable” has been having great success in Europe and all over the world. For the 25th TIFF, we will continue seeking out the high quality films from around the world and presenting the finest films to the world.
TIFFCOM, the affiliated multi-content market is moving to a new location in the Tokyo bay area, with a larger exhibition space, enabling us to expand even further as a content market.
Please come and join us on TIFF’s Green Carpet!”
The 25th TIFF will be held for nine days from October 20 to 28 in Tokyo, Japan, while its affiliated multi-content market TIFFCOM 2012 will be held from October 23 to 25 at the new venue in the Tokyo Bay area.
